Sofrocay® is the federating institution of sophrology. Founded in 1991 by MD-PhD Alfonso Caycedo, Sofrocay® is the organization that represents sophrology in its authentic form as a discipline of research and teaching of the Caycedo Method® in its various fields of application.
Its specificity is the structured training in sophrology.
Created in the medical context of psychiatry, sophrology has developed and is used in the humanities, social sciences, education, sports, and personal development.
Today, MD-PhD Natalia Caycedo, daughter of Professor Alfonso Caycedo, leads a professional team, all of whom aim to continue the work initiated in 1960 by the professor.
Sofrocay is directed by MD-PhD Natalia Caycedo, Psychiatrist, and daughter of PhD Alfonso Caycedo, in collaboration with PhD Koen van Rangelrooij, Physician and Physiotherapist.
They ensure the development and promote the constant evolution of sophrology surrounded by an international and multidisciplinary team, they develop links with a dense network of professionals installed throughout the world.
Today, there are more than 40 sophrology training schools worldwide.

He holds a Doctorate in Psychiatry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with a dissertation titled: “Effectiveness of Psychocorporal Techniques in Sophrology for Anxiety Symptoms in Clinical and Non-Clinical Samples.”

Qualitative research
Qualitative research of consciousness is the essence of sophrology. It is at the base of its development and its methodology.
It is carried out by the analysis of phenodescriptions. The phenodescription is a description of the phenomena lived during the session of sophrology by the patient that describes it in written and/or spoken format.
Phenodescriptions are analyzed and contribute to the updating of a method in constant evolution.

A prospective controlled study on stress and anxiety has scientifically demonstrated the effectiveness of the “Well-being & sophrology®” program in terms of significant improvement in the anxiety level and morale of participating patients.
Scientific study on “Sleep better & sophrology” program
A controlled scientific study conducted in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain demonstrated the effectiveness of the “Sleep better & sophrology” program in reducing the symptoms of insomnia.

Sofrocay has signed an agreement with VYGON* to train the medical staff of Europe’s leading cancer center, Gustave Roussy Hospital, near Paris, France, in its “Wellness & sophrology®” program.
The training involved 30 caregivers. The objective was to improve their daily working conditions and experience the benefits of sophrology both personally and professionally.
